George Moore Stakes Preview
The George Moore Stakes is a 1200m Group 3 open-quality handicap race organised by the Brisbane Racing Club. The race is held at the Doomben Racecourse and has prize money of $200,000.
The race was first held in 1979, and since 2001 it has been run as a Group 3 race. The race is named in honour of George Moore, the renowned jockey and trainer, who was the five-time winner of Doomben 10,000.
George Moore Stakes Betting Tips
In the past, many renowned sprinters have won the race, including the internationally famous runner Takeover Target, who won in 2005 and set a new record at Doomben, winning the race in 1min 7.88sec.
For betting purposes, it is a good idea to look for sprinters in good form, runners with a good experience of the field, horses drawn well in the field, and last-start winners.
Group 1 runners in the field coming with a grade off from a spring lead-up race also have good prospects in the George Moore Stakes. In the past, it had served well to back prominent male gallopers, as the last time a mare won the George Moore Stakes was in 1985 when Basic French won.
