This race is part of the $11.75 million Magic Millions Race Day scheduled for 14th January; the other races include Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, Magic Millions Cup, and Magic Millions Syndicate, among others.
Magic Millions 2YO Classic Betting Tips
The winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic gets $1.1 million as prize money. Key lead-up races for the race include the 1050m Phelan Ready Stakes held in December, the 1200m BJ McLachlan Stakes held two weeks before, and other races held at Gold Coast before the Magic Millions Day.
The last horse to complete the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and BJ McLachlan Stakes double was Coolangatta in 2021-2022. The horse was also the punters’ favourite to win the race in 2022, with odds of $1.95. Horses with previous wins in stake races have dominated the field at Magic Millions 2YO Classic, but upsets have also been there. One such upset was in 2020 when the filly Away Game won with odds of $41.
Runners dominating Group races with similar conditions are also strong performers at Magic Millions. It serves well to look at horses with proven performance in Group or Stake races, particularly those with similar distances. It is also a good tip to look for two-year-old runners with a minimum of two runs in their careers. To date, none of the horses winning the Magic Millions Classic had a record of fewer than two races before participation. Another tip is to look for fillies in the races, as they have dominated the race results during the past five years. Stats show that in the past 13 years, fillies have won 9 times, with Coolangatta being the last filly to win.
