Tasmanian Guineas Preview
The Tasmanian Guineas is a listed race organised annually by the Tasmanian Turf Club at the Hobart Racecourse as a part of the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival. The race has a distance of 1600 metres and is reserved for three-year-old horses with set weight conditions. The race was first held in 1939 and was won by a horse named Brimful.
This year the race is scheduled to take place on 6th January at the Hobart Racecourse with prize money of AUD 125,000, whereby the race winner will get AUD 75,000 from the total purse. In 2022 Alpine Wolf won the race.
Tasmanian Guineas Betting Tips
The Tasmanian Guineas is the second out of eight races scheduled to take place on 6th January at the Hobart. While in the past, runners with single-digit odds have been prominent in the rankings, favourites have not necessarily saluted for the punters. Last year, Turk Warrior was the favourite with odds of $1.5; however, Alpine Wolf led the race. In any case, single-digit runners with a good recent track record on similar distance runs have performed well at the Tasmanian Guineas.
There are multiple prominent runners in this year’s line-up, the most prominent being Bello Beau, trained by Adam Tinder. The recently turned three-year-old gelding has accumulated six wins in his career. His recent win includes the 1400m Steve’s Liquor Trophy run on 14th December 2022.
Next up, we have Cornelian Bay, a two times winner of 1150m and 1200m races, the most recent win being on 27th November 2022 at the Hobart Racecourse’s 1200m Raine and Horne Sorell Class Handicap Race.
Another prominent nominee for the Tasmanian Guineas is a three-year-old filly named Flying to Paris. The runner won second place at the 1400m Steve’s Liquor Trophy run on 14th December 2022.
