Rose Stakes (Shuka Sho Trial) preview
The Rose Stakes is a Grade 2 flat horse race reserved for thoroughbred fillies aged three and above. The race was initially run at the Hanshin Racecourse and had a distance of 1800m. In 2006, the race’s distance was changed to 2000m. Since 2020, the race has been taking place at the Chukyo Racecourse and runs a distance of 2000m on the Chukyo turf track.
This year the race is scheduled to take place on 18th September and has prize money of US$979,000, while the winner walks away with $453,000 from the purse. In 2021, Advaranaut won the race.
The Rose Stakes was first introduced in 1983. A year later, in 1984, it was elevated to a Grade 2 status.
The race serves as a trial run for the Shuka Sho, a Grade I flat horse race reserved for thoroughbred fillies aged three and above. The Shuka Sho race runs over a distance of 2000m and takes place at the Kyoto Racecourse in October. Due to construction at Kyoto, it has been taking place at Hanshin racecourse since 2021. The top performer of the Rose Stakes will hence go on to compete in the Shuka Sho.
