What Time Is The Grand National 2021?

The 2021 Grand National is scheduled to take place at 5.15 pm on Saturday 10 April at Aintree Racecourse. This is now its traditional spot in the Saturday afternoon sporting calendar, fitting in nicely between the end of the football matches that kick off at 3.00 pm and the Premier League’s tee-time match that kicks off at 5.30 pm. With the ground expected to ride good at Aintree, the winning time is expected to be around nine minutes.

Will There Be Crowds At The Grand National 2021?

Sadly, there will be no crowds at the Grand National 2021, just a few stable staff and racecourse employees. Many racing enthusiasts lobbied for the race to be moved back a week to the 17th April, to coincide with the government’s announcement that pubs and restaurants will be allowed to serve food and beverages outdoors from 12th April, but the BHA decided to keep the race on the original date.

Where Can I Watch The Grand National 2021?

Over 500 million people will watch the Grand National 2021 live in over 140 different countries. If you’re watching the Grand National in the UK, you can join millions of punters that will be watching the race on ITV. Alternatively, you will also be able to watch the Grand National on Racing TV.

If you can’t get to a TV at 5.15 on Saturday 10 April, you can also watch the 2021 Grand National on many bookmakers’ websites. You’ll need to place a bet with many of these sites to watch the Grand National, but some will let you watch it for free if you’re logged into your account.

Where Can I Bet On The Grand National 2021?

If you’re one of those punters that normally bets on the Grand National at Aintree Racecourse or in one of the thousands of high-street bookmakers in the United Kingdom, sadly, you won’t be able to do either in 2021.

But you can still bet on the Grand National 2021 at many online bookmakers. It only takes a few minutes to open an account with these betting sites, and you can make deposits and withdrawals with a variety of popular debit cards, e-wallets, and online and mobile payment solutions.

If you’ve never had an account with these bookmakers before, many of them will even reward you with a welcome offer, such as a free bet. Simply make a qualifying deposit to claim your welcome offer and you’ll be able to use your free bet to either bet on the Grand National or another sporting event.

Online bookmakers that offer excellent welcome offers to UK customers include Bet365, Betfair, BetVictor, Betfred, Betway, Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Sky Bet, Unibet, and William Hill.

As 10th April 2021 will be one of the busiest online betting days of all time, we advise you to open your betting accounts at least a day or two in advance of the race to avoid any potential disappointment.

Where Can I Get The Best Odds On The Grand National 2021?

If you’re looking for the best odds on your selections for the Grand National 2021, make sure you shop around, as different bookmakers will be offering the top odds about different selections. An easy way to view the best odds that are available with the leading bookmakers is to use an odds comparison website such as Oddschecker.

When trying to find the best odds for the 2021 Grand National, it’s also a good idea to have a look at the popular betting exchanges such as Betfair and Betdaq, as they’re often the top price about many runners. If you’ve not got accounts with these betting exchanges, it takes just a few minutes to open one, and they also reward new players with welcome offers.

Who’s Offering The Best Each-Way Terms On The Grand National 2021?

When you’re shopping around for the best odds for the 2021 Grand National, it’s also a good idea to check out the each-way terms that different bookmakers are offering. For example, in the build-up to the race, some bookmakers are only betting ¼ odds 4 places, while some are betting ¼ odds 5 places. That extra place could make the difference between a winning and losing Grand National if your horse finishes fifth.

Some bookmakers, such as BetVictor and Betfred, are even betting six places on the Grand National 2021 but are only paying 1/5 odds. If you’re betting on the day of the Grand National, check the each-way terms of all the bookmakers, as these may change in the lead-up to the big race.

Will The Favourite Win The Grand National 2021?

Only one outright favourite has won the Grand National in the last ten runnings, but that was the last winner Tiger Roll who won the 2019 Grand National as the 4/1 favourite. Ironically, that’s the price of the 2021 Grand National favourite Cloth Cap with most bookmakers.

The positives about Cloth Cap are that he comes into the race in the form of his life, having won the 2020 Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury and the Premier Chase at Kelso in fine style. In winning his last race, he beat much higher-rated rivals easily and the handicapper has since raised his handicap mark to 162.

However, as that win came after the weights were released for the 2021 Grand National, Cloth Cap can race off his old mark of 148. He also carries less than 11-0, like five of the last seven winners. The forecast good ground is also in his favour.

The negatives are that he has never raced over the Grand National fences before, and he will surely be taken on for the lead in a field of 40 runners. However, if jockey Tom Scudamore can get him in a good rhythm and a good early position, the rest of the runners will be fighting it out for second.

What Is The Best Outsider In The Grand National 2021?

Three of the last 10 runnings of the Grand National have been won by horses returned at odds of 33/1, 33/1, and 66/1 so, while the favourite has an obvious chance, it’s impossible to discount the chance of another outsider winning.

One horse that catches the eye at a big price is Alpha Des Obeaux, who is one of several runners that represent Gigginstown Stud in the absence of dual-winner Tiger Roll.

Interestingly, the three 11-year-olds that have won in the last eight years have been returned at 25/1, 33/1, and 66/1, so Alpha Des Obeaux fits the profile of the best outsider at odds of around 66/1.

This former Grade winner may have regressed over the last couple of seasons, but many Grand National winners have been formerly classy horses that have been given a chance by the handicapper. He did fall in the 2018 Grand National but carried 11-4 then and has just 10-9 this year.

He’s also since finished third in a Becher Chase when carrying top-weight and he looked more like his old self when fourth in the Cross-Country Chase last time at Cheltenham. He’ll also prefer the good ground this year, whereas it was soft ground in 2018.

Grand National 2021 Best Picks

There are a lot of good horses carrying less than 11-0 this year and the seven horses burdened with more weight may struggle. As well as Cloth Cap and Alpha Des Obeaux, our 2021 Grand National shortlist includes Anibale Fly and Talkingrisks.

Anibale Fly has run poorly since finishing fifth in the 2019 Grand National off a mark of 164, but he was also fourth off 159 in 2018. He’s also twice finished runner-up in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. He gets in off 155 this year, carries a much lower weight than on his previous two tries, and looks to have been laid out for the race.

It also looks worth taking a risk on Takingrisks, despite him being older than ideal at the age of 12. He was a good winner last time out, while his win in the 2019 Scottish Grand National catches the eye. He gave Cloth Cap 1lb and a 4-length beating that day and, though Cloth Cap has improved since, Takingrisks doesn’t deserve to be four-times the price of the favourite.
