What Happens If A Game Is Void On An Accumulator?

A void game on an accumulator is normally a match that has been postponed for some reason. In many cases, the void match becomes a non-runner, and your accumulator bet will be settled according to the results of the remaining matches. However, some bookmakers have different rules, and it’s important that you read and understand the rules of each individual bookmaker or bookmakers you use.

Rather than try and outline the different rules of every bookmaker for every scenario, our article ‘about what happens if a game is void?’ highlights several of the key situations where a void match may affect your accumulator.

When Matches Are Void Before Kick-Off

It’s not uncommon for sports matches to be postponed before the kick-off, with the weather being the main cause of these postponements. However, matches have also been known to be postponed for other reasons, such as failing floodlights, etc.

In this scenario, many bookmakers will settle your accumulator according to the results of the other matches in your accumulator. For example, if you have five selections in your accumulator, your bet will be settled as a four-fold. If your bet is a 4-fold, it will be settled as a treble on the remaining selections.

To highlight this, let’s say you have placed a bet on four football teams in an accumulator and all four of your selected teams are even-money (2.00) to win their matches.

If you placed a £10 accumulator bet on these four teams and they all won, you would be expecting a return of £160. However, when one match is void, your bet would be settled as a treble on three winning teams, and your return would be £80.

While the rules of many bookmakers say that a postponed match will become a void selection, please check your bookmaker’s individual accumulator rules. If the match is going to be played within a specified time frame, some bookmakers may determine that the accumulator will stand and that it will be settled after all the matches (including the postponed game) have been played.

When Matches Are Postponed After Kick-Off

While matches are more likely to be postponed before kick-off, there are instances where matches have been postponed or abandoned after kick-off. Adverse weather and failing floodlights are, again, the two main reasons, though matches have also been abandoned because teams have had too many players sent off.

The problem with postponing matches after they have kicked-off is that one team may have been winning at the time. In this scenario, you may feel aggrieved if the match is deemed as void but, if your team was losing, you can also benefit from a game being void.

However, bookies also face the same dilemma in that this match could swing many accumulator bets in their favour if one team loses, which is why some bookmakers have different rules to others. Some bookmakers simply void the match instantly, while others count the match providing it is completed or replayed within a stated time period. Again, please check your bookmaker’s rules.

Do Void Matches Affect Bookmaker Accumulator Bonuses?

You’ve probably got the message that it’s important to check the rules of your bookmaker regarding accumulators, and these rules will also tell you what happens to any accumulator bonuses if there is a void match.

Lots of bookmakers now encourage you to place your accumulators with them by offering accumulator bonuses. For example, you may get a 5% bonus on 5-folds, a 10% bonus on 6-folds, and a 15% bonus on 7-folds, etc.

In many instances, a void game will simply reduce your accumulator 1-fold and reduce your accumulator bonus in the same way. But you guessed it, always check the rules of your bookmaker to make sure.

How Do Void Games Affect My Tipster’s Accumulator Tips?

Tipsters that tip accumulators and anyone that follows those tips are in the same boat as anyone else that has accumulator bets. Tipsters tend to recommend bookmakers to have your bets with and these will normally be the ones who they like the rules of the most. However, as tipsters always like to also recommend you take the best odds, they may also recommend bets with lots of bookmakers that have different rules.

We recommend you check the rules of all the bookmakers that your tipster recommends you use and, if you don’t like the rules of one or more of them, you may want to think about taking slightly worse odds with a bookmaker that you prefer. But this choice is yours to make.

Should I Place Accumulator Bets?

Just like in any form of gambling, you should place accumulator bets if you or your tipster have shown you can make a profit from them. Just make sure you check the rules of all the different bookmakers that you are considering betting with, so you know how your bets will be settled in the event of a void game.

We hope that’s answered your question, what happens if a game is void in an accumulator.

    • Hi Peter, that will be down to the specific bookie/sportsbook you used.
It should be mentioned in their terms, but I recommend contacting them for clarification.
